Renewable energy research center
If you have a relevant further education, you can work in a research center that provides research, training and information within the area of renewable energy technologies. The mission of the organization is to reduce environmental pollution by replacing fossil fuels and atomic power with renewable energies. The organization has a big campus which comprises 4.000 square meters of buildings including offices, workshops, training centre, test stations for wave energy machines and windmills. As a volunteer there you will work together with the interns helping out with various tasks and studyng the area of renewable energy in depth.
Ecology and renewable energy
If you like working with your hands, you can work at an ecological garden belonging to a folk college. This folk college considers itself the “green folk college of Denmark”. It has a wind turbine which supplies CO2 neutral energy together with solar and geothermal systems. Their “Garden of Wonder” provides ecological vegetable and fruit to the folk college kitchen. As a volunteer you will work mainly outdoor in the garden with fellow volunteers and also attend relevant courses at the folk college together with the students.
Agriculture
Denmark is traditionally an agricultural country and especially in the area of intensive farming. It is at the forefront of developing new and sustainable agricultural practices. If you are interested in agriculture and manual work, you have the opportunity to volunteer in one of Denmark’s agricultural colleges which educate farmers and other people aiming for a future in sustainable agriculture. As a volunteer you will help with the practical agricultural work at the college and also take part in relevant courses both as a teacher assistant and as a student.
Practicalities
- All costs in connection with your participation in this program are included: food, accommodation, language education and orientation sessions. However, you will need to bring pocket money for your own spending. Denmark is an expensive country so it is recommended having a minimum of USD 170 per month.
- You will be met by AFS on arrival to Copenhagen airport and be taken directly to the on-arrival orientation. On day 3 they you will be helped board the train to your local community.
- You will be invited to mid-term orientations with AFS which are held in April and November.
