Women's Empowerment in Laos

Come discover the ancient city of Luang Prabang!

Volunteers in Laos will teach both grammar and conversational English. You will also have the opportunity to lead computer & life skills courses.

You will play a significant role in improving the quality and access to education for disadvantaged women as well as increasing their employment opportunities and their quality of life.

Housing / meals details

Accommodation is in shared rooms with fan and shared bathrooms at a local guesthouse. There is running hot and cold water available for showering. Western style toilets are in each of the bathrooms. Volunteers will be offered 3 meals a day at a restaurant near the guesthouse. Breakfast may include eggs, bread, pancakes or fruit salad. For lunch and dinner, volunteers can choose from a variety of local and westerns dishes on the menu (vegetarian options available). As well as the provided meals, Luang Prabang has plenty of local and western restaurants that volunteers are welcome to eat at, at their own expense.

Social life

You will be staying from a walking distance of the centre of Luang Prabang and working at the temple, or possibly at other learning facilities located in town. Travelling around the area is easy and is best done by foot or by bike. Bicycles are available locally to rent or to purchase at your own expense.

In your down time, you will be free to travel in the local area and can expect to have weekends off. During this time you could visit nearby caves, local handicraft villages, waterfalls, or even go for boat rides on the Mekong River. Tour companies are plentiful in Luang Prabang and weekend trips are easy to arrange. The field staff can point you towards reliable companies to do so. Visit the modern day capital of Vientiane, or go tubing and trekking in Vang Vieng. The possibilities are endless!
