You will be staying from a walking distance of the centre of Luang Prabang and working at the temple, or possibly at other learning facilities located in town. Travelling around the area is easy and is best done by foot or by bike. Bicycles are available locally to rent or to purchase at your own expense. <\/p>\n

In your down time, you will be free to travel in the local area and can expect to have weekends off. During this time you could visit nearby caves, local handicraft villages, waterfalls, or even go for boat rides on the Mekong River. Tour companies are plentiful in Luang Prabang and weekend trips are easy to arrange. The field staff can point you towards reliable companies to do so. Visit the modern day capital of Vientiane, or go tubing and trekking in Vang Vieng. All Volunteers passport details need to be submitted to a local partner by the Friday before the start date (i.e. 1 week before) therefore bookings cannot be taken in the week leading up to a start date.<\/p>\n

For your program you will need a tourist visa, for most nationalities this does not need to be arranged in advance. Depending on your nationality, this will cost approximately USD 40. You will need 2 passport photos for the tourist visa. The duration offered depends upon your nationality so please check to ensure you comply with immigration and airlines requirements regarding visas and entry prerequisites to the country such as proof of a return flight within a maximum number of days. In the event that you receive a reduced tourist visa when you enter the country, do not panic, GVI staff will help you to reapply for the correct visa status once you are in country. For those planning on staying beyond the maximum number of days allotted on a normal tourist visa you can extend your visa in country 2 times for USD 78 per extension before having to leave the country to obtain a new visa.
